Whollify Community Guidelines

Whollify runs on the assumption that students can be trusted to evaluate each other, and that only works if people behave well when nobody senior is in the room. These guidelines say what that means in practice. Failing to uphold them may result in content removal, loss of earned permissions, suspension, or removal from the platform, so please read carefully.

Who These Apply To

These guidelines apply to everyone on Whollify: students, lecturers, evaluators, administrators and staff, whether you joined Whollify School directly or were given an account by your institution. Your school may hold you to additional standards of its own. Where its rules are stricter, its rules apply.

Whollify is subject-agnostic. These guidelines are written for coursework of any kind, not only for programming.

Treat People as Colleagues

The people you work alongside come from different institutions, backgrounds, levels of preparation and parts of the world. Treat them as colleagues rather than competition. Someone being behind you on a topic is not a defect in them; on most topics you are behind someone else.

If a peer makes a mistake in their submission, their reasoning or their evaluation of you, say so plainly and without contempt. Mocking, belittling or dismissing people does not make them better and makes the room worse. If you cannot give feedback respectfully, step back and let someone else give it.

Conduct in an Evaluation

A live peer evaluation is the most consequential thing that happens on Whollify. Your score goes into someone's record, your name goes onto the score, and they rate you back. Both sides of every session are on the record.

When you are the evaluator:

Score the work in front of you against the rubric you were given, not the person, not their accent, not their institution, and not how much you like them.
Actually assess it. Run it, read it, ask them to justify it. Waving a submission through is not a kindness; it puts an unearned result into a permanent record.
Do not trade scores. Agreeing to rate each other favourably, in advance or afterwards, is misconduct for both parties.
Do not use a session to pressure, proposition, intimidate or lecture someone about anything unrelated to the work.
Say what you scored and why. An unexplained low score is not feedback.

When you are being evaluated:

Present your own work and be honest about which parts you do not understand. Whollify records that you did not know something far more gracefully than it records a claim that turns out to be false.
Disclose what you used, including AI assistance, where your school requires it.
Disagree with a score through the dispute process, not by retaliating in the rating you give your evaluator.

Whollify grades every submission independently as well. Where an automated assessment and a peer score disagree, the session is referred to staff rather than averaged. Consistently scoring far away from everyone else becomes visible in your own record.

Academic Integrity

Submit your own work. Passing off someone else's submission, buying work, or having another person sit an evaluation in your place is the most serious category of violation on this platform, because it corrupts the record every other student's result is compared against.

Using scripts, bots, additional accounts or any other method to manipulate submissions, evaluations, attendance, reputation or grading undermines the whole system. So does publishing instructions for doing it. Both lead to removal.

Helping a peer understand something is encouraged and is the point of the platform. Handing them your answer is not helping them.

Different Routes to the Same Answer

Most real problems have more than one defensible solution. Approach a submission that differs from how you would have done it with curiosity first, and judge it on whether it works and whether the person can defend it, not on whether it matches your preference.

If You Hold a Staff Role

Lecturer, evaluator, administrator and registry roles carry access to other people's records, messages and results. That access exists so you can do your job and for no other reason. Looking at a student's data out of curiosity, or to settle something personal, is a misuse of it, and access is logged.

Staff sign off on what becomes official. Do not use that authority, or the prospect of using it, to obtain anything from a student. Do not ask students to work outside the platform in ways that avoid the record. If you are in a position to affect someone's result, you are in a position where a favour cannot be freely given, so do not ask for one.

Do not post phone numbers, home addresses, identity documents or other sensitive personal details in channels, forums or evaluation sessions, whether your own or anyone else's. Do not share another student's submission, score, feedback or record outside the people entitled to see it. Do not share your account credentials or repository access tokens with anyone, including staff; nobody legitimate will ask.

Whollify Is Not a Place to...

Attack or Harm Others

Harassment, hate speech, threats and sexual attention nobody asked for are not tolerated, in any surface of the platform: messages, forums, evaluation sessions, profile names or profile images. This includes stalking and impersonation. Offensive or hateful usernames and images will be removed at Sierra Africa's discretion. If your conduct makes someone feel unsafe in a room they are required to be in, it does not belong here. Verified violations may result in removal without prior notice, and your institution will be informed.

Retaliate

Do not punish someone for a score you disagree with, for a report they made, or for raising a concern about your conduct. Retaliation is treated as a separate violation from whatever prompted it, and it is treated more seriously.

Post Inflammatory or Off-Topic Content

Hateful, obscene or deliberately inflammatory content has no place in coursework discussions, forums or evaluation sessions. Keep channels usable for the people who need them to work.

Prohibited Content

We do not tolerate content that is:

Illegal
Sexual content, or any sexual content involving minors, which is reported to the authorities
Excessively profane or violent
Spam or promotional material
Threatening, harassing, or bullying
Associated with racism, intolerance, or discrimination
Impersonating another student, a member of staff, or your institution
Another person's personal, academic or confidential information
Offered for sale as coursework, or soliciting someone to complete work on your behalf

Reporting Violations

Report conduct or content that breaks these guidelines through Whollify's in-platform reporting tool. If it concerns a member of staff at your institution, or you would rather not route it through your school, write to support@whollify.com directly. Reports about safety are read first.

Where your school is the controller of your academic data, conduct matters within its authority are referred to it. We will tell you when that happens.

Consequences

Conduct that violates these guidelines, including through loopholes rather than plain breaches, may result in content removal, loss of earned permissions such as moderation or evaluator standing, temporary suspension, or permanent removal, in serious cases without warning. Where an institution administers your account, we act together with it, and it may apply its own academic penalties independently of anything we do.
